At the June board meeting, Ken Dyda, past RPV councilman and mayor, spoke to the board members regarding his opposition to the Marymount College initiative, which will be on the November ballot. At the August 11 board meeting, Dr! Michael Brophy, Marymount College president, will speak about the initiative from the college's viewpoint. In the meantime, a group of our League members met to discuss the initiative and its relation to our local League positions. Their findings will be presented at the August 11 board meeting for board consideration. I urge you all to educate yourselves on this issu.! Both the city and college websites include information on the issue!
This is a good year to step up your participation in League. We have local issues – the Marymount initiative and the charter city decision. We have state issues – elections, redistricting implementation, health care reform, another state budget disaster, water concerns. There is much for League to do, both in education and advocacy. Join in – be a part of League"s effort to make democracy work.
